How can I prevent stretching of games that don't support widescreen on a widescreen monitor?

The team game is starcraft if it matters. The activity does not allow the resolution to be changed. It runs at 800x600. When I use it on my new monitor the picture is stretched and the monitor still say it is running at 1440x900. I cannot find how I can fix this. I look at my brothers laptop when he plays and he has 2 black bar on the sides. This is what I want. Thx.

play with different resolutions till you capture the best view. thats what i do. btw, after a while you will gain used to them though ;-)
